End of slavery in France information


The origins of slavery in France can be traced back to the Merovingian dynasty in the 4th century. At least five Frankish queens during that period were former slaves: Ingund, Fredegund, Bilichild, Nanthild, and Balthild.[1][2][3] Slavery continued under the Carolingian Empire.
