The National Archives of Panama (Spanish: Archivo Nacional de Panamá) is the institution in charge of safeguarding national documents. It was created by Law No. 43 of December 14, 1912,[1] under the administration of President Belisario Porras, being Panama the first republic in America to have a building dedicated to its national archive.[2]
Since its creation, it has had the mandate to protect the documentary material of patrimonial value and record of the historical memory of the country, in addition to the preservation of the historical-cultural heritage for current and future generations.[3]
