Bandar Torkaman (Persian: بندرتركمن; Turkmen: Bender-Türkmen), formerly known as Bandar Shah (Persian: بَندَرِ شاه),[3] is a city in the Central District of Torkaman County, Golestan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[4]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 45,045 in 9,755 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 48,736 people in 11,869 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 53,970 people in 14,512 households.[2]
Bandar Torkaman is a port on the Caspian Sea. It is approximately 375 km (233 mi) from Tehran. Some 3 km (1.9 mi) west of Bandar Torkaman is Ashooradeh Island.[1]
