Aftermath of World War I information

Aftermath of World War I
Part of the interwar period
William Orpen's The Signing of Peace in the Hall of Mirrors: the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles in 1919
Date11 November 1918 – 1 September 1939
(20 years, 9 months and 3 weeks)
OutcomePolitical and social changes such as:
  • Spanish flu
  • Paris Peace Conference (1919–1920)
  • International relations (1919–1939)
  • Revolutions of 1917–1923

The aftermath of World War I saw far-reaching and wide-ranging cultural, economic, and social change across Europe, Asia, Africa, and even in areas outside those that were directly involved. Four empires collapsed due to the war, old countries were abolished, new ones were formed, boundaries were redrawn, international organizations were established, and many new and old ideologies took a firm hold in people's minds. World War I also had the effect of bringing political transformation to most of the principal parties involved in the conflict, transforming them into electoral democracies by bringing near-universal suffrage for the first time in history, as in Germany (1919 German federal election), Great Britain (1918 United Kingdom general election), and Turkey (1923 Turkish general election).[citation needed]
