Elected Leader

Benjamin Netanyahu

The 1993 Likud leadership election was held on March 24, 1993[1][2] to elect the leader of the Likud party. Benjamin Netanyahu defeated three other candidates in the race to succeed outgoing party leader Yitzhak Shamir. This was the first time in the history of the Likud party (or its predecessor Herut) that a party leadership election was open to the party's general membership. Since Netanyahu received more than the 40% threshold required to win in the first round of voting, no runoff election was held.
