Space Exploration Alliance information

On June 3rd 2004, 13 United States space advocacy groups, industry associations and space policy organizations formed an umbrella organization known as the Space Exploration Alliance or SEA. SEA's primary purpose is to support the White House's plan to refocus NASA's human space activities toward exploration beyond low Earth orbit.[1]

Their initial effort, officially known as the Vision for Space Exploration (VSE), was announced on January 15, 2004 by President George W. Bush at NASA Headquarters. The VSE includes plans for a return to the Moon by United States. astronauts with the intent of establishing a permanent lunar base before follow-on efforts are made to move on to Mars and beyond.[2]

The organizations involved in supporting the Space Exploration Alliance include:

  • Explore Mars Inc
  • Federation of Galaxy Explorers
  • Moon Society
  • The Mars Society
  • National Society of Black Engineers
  • Buzz Aldrin's Human SpaceFlight Institute
  • Students for the Exploration and Development of Space
  • Department of Space
