Restrictions on TikTok in the United States information
In April 2024, US president Joe Biden signed into law the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act", which orders ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to divest it to an American company or otherwise the app would be banned in the United States in 2025. The video-sharing platform had sparked concerns over potential user data collection and influence operations by the Chinese government. Previous efforts by the Trump administration to ban the app or force its sale were stopped by the courts and the Biden administration.
