Malaria in Mandatory Palestine information

Malaria was a severe epidemic in parts of Mandatory Palestine in the early 20th century. The epidemic killed many people from the biblical period until it was finally eradicated in the early 1960s. Malaria was originally a large obstacle to Zionist settlement, because it restricted the land that was usable for settlement, and affected the lifestyle of the Jewish settlers in Mandatory Palestine.

Before 1918, malaria was common in Mandatory Palestine.[1] By 1926, the disease had been nearly eliminated from the upper Galilee and the Jezreel Valley.

The anti-malaria campaign helped to increase the Arab population in Palestine.[1]
