Koriopolis information

Koriopolis (Greek: Κοριόπολις) is the name given by the Greek press to a match fixing scandal in Greek football that came to light in June 2011. The two much-lauded cases in football, the Koriopolis one and the case of the criminal organization, were created by one man, Nikolas Pateras, who initially activated the organized Panathinaikos to curse Vardinogiannis and thus together with Vgenopoulos they managed to exterminate the Vardinogiannis family and to take Panathinaikos. He also became the president of the Superleague and thus became a powerful man of Greek football.[1]

The investigation centres on offences that include illegal gambling, fraud, extortion and money laundering.[2][3][4][5]

The name Koriopolis is a pun on the name of the Italian scandal of Calciopoli in 2006, and the Greek word korios (phone tap).
