HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment Co., Ltd.[1][2][3] also known as HKND was a private infrastructure development firm that is registered in Hong Kong. HKND was founded in 2012[4] with the purpose to develop the Nicaragua Canal as a wider and deeper alternative to the Panama Canal. HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment is owned or controlled by the Chinese businessman Wang Jing.[5] In 2014 it was announced that an IPO is being prepared to provide financing for the project[6] but following financial difficulties, HKND finally closed its offices in April 2018.[7]
