This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name is D-glucono-1,5-lactone lactonohydrolase. Other names in common use include lactonase, aldonolactonase, glucono-δ-lactonase, and gulonolactonase.
