Dikgope Madi information

Dikgope Andrew "Magic Bones" Madi was an Umkhonto we Sizwe, or MK, combatant involved in the liberation struggle under apartheid.

He is believed to have been involved in military operations and extortions, including the 1981 bombing of the Sibasa police station which killed two police officers and crippled a third one. Madi was later kidnapped and tortured by the South African Security Police and secretly buried at Thohoyandou.[1] Following the exhumation of his body in December 1997, along with 11 other combatants and under the direction of the then Premier Ngoako Ramatlhodi, he was reburied military-style at Marapyane in Mpumalanga on 11 January 1998.[2]

The investigation undertaken around his death and exhumation illustrates the challenges faced by the exhumation process of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
