Barbara Muhammad Sharief (born November 7, 1971) is an American politician and nurse. Serving as a Broward County commissioner from 2010 to 2021, she was appointed mayor from 2013 to 2014, and again from 2016 to 2017.[1][2][3] She is the county's first African-American female and Muslim mayor. Sharief is also a former Miramar city commissioner and vice mayor.[4] In September 2022, she announced her candidacy for Florida's 35th Senate District in the 2024 election.[5]
