Not to be confused with Baltic Sea Advisory Council.
The Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) is an independent non-profit foundation that strives to restore the Baltic Sea, one of the most polluted seas in the world.[1] BSAG is based in the Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland.
BSAG works to mitigate eutrophication and the effects of climate change and to combat biodiversity loss. Cooperation with scientists, businesses, legislators, and farmers is central to the foundation's approach.[2] The foundation currently works to protect marine biodiversity, promote responsible shipping, and encourage regenerative agriculture in the Baltic Sea.[3]
BSAC works with companies operating in and around the Baltic Sea. The foundation encourages these companies to make Baltic Sea Commitments, promises to implement sustainability strategies.[4] In 2009, Finnish chemical company Kemira pledged to control their sludge disposal, as too much nitrogen and phosphorus in the water increases risk of eutrophication.[5] By 2023, more than 300 commitments have been made.[4]
