Avtar Singh Brahma (1951 – 22 July 1988) was a Sikh Kharku and one of the main founding figures and the second leader of Khalistan Liberation Force founded in 1986.[1][2][3] Avtar Singh has been reputed for never attacking civilians.[3] He was famed and popular amongst rural Sikhs who consider Brahma a Robin Hood figure.[3] Avtar Singh was famed for his bravery and for the multiple encounters he took part in. Most known was Operation Mand where Brahma shoot down a Central Reserve Police Force helicopter.[4] Brahma also famed for being very religious and was credited with reading Gurbani 18 hours of a day.[5]
