The America COMPETES Act (formally America Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science Act of 2007)[1][2][3] was authored by Bart Gordon[4] and signed into law on August9, 2007, by President George W. Bush. The act aimed to invest in innovation through research and development and improve the competitiveness of the United States.[5]
On May 29, 2010, the U.S. House passed a measure to reauthorize the America COMPETES Act. On July22, 2010, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 and sent it to the Senate for a vote. On January4, 2011, President Barack Obama signed the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 into law.
On February 4, 2022, the House passed the America COMPETES Act of 2022,[6] followed by the Senate on March28, 2022.[7]
