He provided evidence of the concept for more than half a century, enabling scientists to improve our technology. And what’s more, he is also the author of the first self-learning chatbot ELIZA.

Despite its early years, AI has evolved since its inception. Before it was mainstream, machine learning and robotics were the dominant forces in the artificial intelligence industry. But before AI took off, there was a man named Ctesibius, who invented the first self-regulatory system called the clepsydra. This system didn’t need outside intervention, making it more accurate than other types of clocks.

The history of artificial intelligence begins in antiquity, when philosophers speculated about mechanical men and automatons. In the 1800s, classical philosophers began to consider how the human mind might be mechanized and manipulated by machines. They also considered the mechanical manipulation of symbols and thought. In 1941, computer scientists began seriously discussing the concept of building electronic brains. And today, AI is used to help people solve problems.

The first artificially intelligent humanoid robots were developed for children. The Furby, a stuffed animal, was a big success. Later, a humanoid robot, ASIMO, was developed by Honda. And in 2004, iRobot, a company founded by researchers at the MIT AI lab, introduced the Roomba vacuum cleaner. The Roomba sold over two million units in a few years. After the Y2K crash, AI continued to expand and be explored in creative media.

The first AI products were released in 2002. Google released a self-driving car, and Andrew Ng developed a neural network capable of recognizing cats. And in 2006, IBM’s Watson won jeopardy, proving it could understand natural language and answer tricky questions quickly. The technology was used by many companies and incorporated into products. Google made the first self-driving car, the Alexa voice assistant on iOS, and Hanson Robotics developed the first “robot citizen” Sophia. She can speak, understand and respond to facial emotions and is now available in smart speakers.

While the origins of artificial intelligence are disputed, its development started with a landmark paper by Claude Shannon in 1950. This paper, written by the “father of computer science,” proposed a test that could distinguish human and machine responses to a text. This test, now famously known as the Turing Test, has been the foundation for AI. Its success is proof that computers are capable of thinking, albeit imperfectly.

It’s easy to see how Artificial Intelligence could change human life. For example, humans only have a certain amount of energy, and they need time to rest. Machines could pick up where they left off at night. Thus, double production could occur the next day. This would not only help humans to rest but also reduce the risk of illness. In the health-care industry, AI has revolutionized the field of medicine.

A number of factors contributed to the development of AI. The first AI breakthrough occurred in 1996 when IBM’s Deep Blue computer beat Garry Kasparov in a chess match. The next step was the development of self-correcting AI, which is able to understand language and interact with other senses. The AI revolution changed everything!
