Which Neural Network allows Feedback Signal?


The most basic concept of a neural network is that information flows from input to output. Its input layer receives information numerically expressed as activation values and passes it along the network. The activation value of any node determines its output. An input that exceeds a certain threshold activates the node below, and the process repeats itself for all of the nodes. This process is called a feedforward network.

The error-sign-based direct feedback alignment method (sDFA) is another form of feedback alignment. This technique provides modulatory signals in classification tasks. In a synthetic dataset of 16×16-pixel images, the network is trained to classify the images into 10 different classes. FA and BP suffer from a problem known as vanishing gradients. The sDFA algorithm overcomes this problem by using ReLU-based networks with batch normalization to provide modulatory signals in classification tasks. Its accuracy and stability are comparable to those of other feedback-alignment-based algorithms.

In the delay-loop model, the network is driven by a signal a(t), with an initial value of n. A delay-loop can either be a linear or a nonlinear system. The output of a network depends on the input vector u, and its state changes over time. It also has a feedback loop. This loop implements the delay td (in milliseconds) and the temporal modulation function mathcalM_d_t.

The feedforward network has stages with linear filters. The resulting output is a step whose size varies linearly with the input amplitude. The output of the network is the same as the output of a simpler network that linearly filters the input and projects it with a weight Wn. The symmetrical nature of the output makes the feedforward network a highly versatile network. There are numerous applications of the feedforward network in a variety of fields.

The feedback network, which is also called a recurrent neural network, is the most common form of this type of network. It uses a recurrent associative memory model and accepts an input pattern and produces an output pattern associated with that input. Its output is a clear version of this stored pattern. This type of network is generally used for problems with binary pattern vectors. The weights are associated with a specific pattern, which is the basis of its recognition.

Fig. 4B shows the feedforward network architecture, which reflects a combination of intrinsic neuronal dynamics and positive feedback between local clusters of neurons. The inputs of each neuron in the feedforward network are projected to the entire cluster ahead of it. The resulting output of the feedforward network is identical to the summed output of panel A. The feedforward network architecture has a slow component due to feedforward interactions.

The feedforward network architecture in Fig. 3C is recurrent, meaning that the input pattern always precedes the output. Thus, later activity patterns are linear filters of earlier activity. This feedforward behavior is called a “rotated feedforward network.”

The feedforward network is an ideal network for feedforward processing of inputs. It consists of N neurons characterized by their mean firing rate activity. Each neuron receives input from previous neurons, acting as a low-pass filter with an exponential time constant t. In other words, each neuron receives input from earlier neurons and triggers the subsequent activity. Its performance is understood by categorizing the pathways.

The line attractor, which generates graded persistent activity without negative feedback, requires precise tuning. This type of network can generate graded persistent activity. Positive feedback can be used to set time scales for feedforward stages. In contrast, negative feedback cannot sustain the long-term activity provided by transient stimuli. This feature makes feedback interactions an essential aspect of memory network models. For this reason, feedback interactions in neural networks are crucial for understanding how the brain works.
