Wheatley Hills Golf Club, is a 110-acre (45 ha) country club and golf course in East Williston, New York. It was established in 1913 from land purchased from William Titus for forty eight dollars per acre. The Titus homestead was converted into the clubhouse. Adjacent to the property is the Long Island Motor Parkway built by William Kissam Vanderbilt II where he held auto races and awarded the Vanderbilt Cup.[2] Also adjacent is the property of Harry Payne Whitney.[3]
^"Indicator Takes Meadow Brook Cup. Stirring Race for Hunt Trophy on Harry Payne Whitney's Estate at Wheatley Hills". The New York Times. May 10, 1914. Retrieved 2011-03-23. Harry Payne Whitney played the part of an English country squire to perfection at his country place at Wheatley Hills yesterday, the occasion being the annual meeting of the Meadow Brook Steeplechase Association. For the farmers and their families in the vicinity Mr. Whitney provided an abundant lunch, and incidentally an opportunity to get enough out of "them city fellers" to buy all the fertilizers they will need for the coming year.
