Juma Waswa Balunywa (born 3 December 1955) is a Ugandan economist,banker,humanitarian, scholar in management, leadership and entrepreneurship. He was also an academic administrator and worked as the Principal of Makerere University Business School until his contract expired on 31 May 2023.[1] He was at the helm of the institution from 1991, when MUBS was the Faculty of Commerce of Makerere University.[2]
Balunywa has been credited with spearheading the private students’ scheme in Uganda that has become a model for many universities across the country and region.[3] Balunywa is the founder of the Balunywa foundation. https://balunywafoundation.org/ which is based in Iganga District whose aim of the foundation is to ensure the community around Iganga has better living standards and better life through education where the foundation has been able to sponsor and help many young people succeed in life through education and hands on skills ie tailoring, farming, saving schemes, and learning computer, Balunywa built the AKB memorial hospital( https://x.com/AkbHospital?t=4rY1IRBtOGk23oJ66yPxYg&s=09) in Iganga District , the hospital has been able to provide free health services to people in Iganga District hence promising a better and healthy life. The Balunywa foundation also has the Balunywa leadership Academy under it, the leadership academy has been able to mentor many young people with leadership skills which have helped them become better leaders in the world
