Tsanars[a] were a Caucasian people who are mentioned in Arabic texts of the eight-to-tenth centuries AD. They originally lived near Darial Gorge north of Tbilisi but expanded to Kakheti. In the ninth and tenth centuries, Tsanars migrated to regions near Shakki around passes connecting Kakheti with Dagestan.
