Susan Kare (/kɛər/ "care"; born February 5, 1954) is an American artist and graphic designer, who contributed interface elements and typefaces for the first Apple Macintosh personal computer from 1983 to 1986.[1] She was employee #10 and Creative Director at NeXT, the company formed by Steve Jobs after he left Apple in 1985. She was a design consultant for Microsoft, IBM, Sony Pictures, Facebook, and Pinterest. As of 2023[update] Kare was an employee of Niantic Labs.[2] As a pioneer of pixel art and of the graphical computer interface, she has been celebrated as one of the most significant designers of modern technology.[3]
