Sima Yuanxian (司馬元顯) (382[1] – 20 or 22 April 402[2]), courtesy name Langjun (郎君),[3] formally Heir Apparent Zhong of Kuaiji (會稽忠世子), was briefly a regent of the Jin Dynasty (266–420), during the reign of his developmentally-disabled cousin Emperor An.
^Volume 109 of Zizhi Tongjian recorded that Sima Yuanxian was 16 (by East Asian reckoning) in the 1st year of the Long'an era of Sima Dezong's reign, which corresponds to 397 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. (会稽世子元显,年十六...) Thus by calculation, his birth year should be 382.
^According to Emperor An's biography in Book of Jin, Yuanxian was killed on the xin'wei day of the 3rd month of the 1st year of the Yuan'xing era, which corresponds to 20 Apr 402 in the Julian calendar. Vol. 112 of Zizhi Tongjian indicate that he was executed on the gui'you day of the same month and year, which corresponds to 22 Apr 402 in the Julian calendar.
