He previously served as a judge of the Supreme Court of India from 2013 to 2016.[1] He has also served as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and Patna High Court and judge of the Allahabad High Court and Patna High Court.
