Savage Conversations is a book by author and poet LeAnne Howe (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma). Published in 2019, the story is based on historical events that occurred in the United States between 1862 and 1876: the execution of thirty-eight Dakota men, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the court-ordered institutionalization of Mary Todd Lincoln.[1] In this book, Howe connects two events: Mary Todd Lincoln’s mental condition and the mass execution of the Dakota men.[1][2]

Among critics, there is a lack of consensus on how to refer to the book's form.[3][4][5][6][7]
