The Quebec City Tramway (French: Tramway de Québec) is a planned light rail system in Quebec City. The line is 19.3 kilometres (12.0 mi) long and has 29 stations, two of which are planned to be underground.
Construction was planned to start in 2024, with a completion date of 2029.[6] However, on November 9, 2023, Quebec premier François Legault made a last-minute announcement that he is refusing to fund the project right before the construction was set to start, despite years of preparation and political promise from his party Coalition Avenir Québec. He ordered Caisse de dépôt et placement, now taking over the project from the city, to conduct additional studies, which many critics fear is effectively shelving the project because it has been in study and planning for over 20 years.[7][8]
A former streetcar system existed in the city between 1865 and 1948. It was electrified in 1897.
