Plaid Cymru (English: /plaɪdˈkʌmri/PLYDEKUM-ree;[25]Welsh:[plaidˈkəmri]; officially Plaid Cymru – the Party of Wales, and often referred to simply as Plaid) is a centre-left to left-wing, Welsh nationalist political party in Wales, committed to Welsh independence from the United Kingdom.[26][27]
Plaid was formed in 1925 and won its first seat in the UK Parliament in 1966. The party holds three of 40 Welsh seats in the UK Parliament, 12 of 60 seats in the Senedd,[28] and 202 of 1,231 principal local authority councillors.[24] It is a member of the European Free Alliance.
