Organon F is a Slovak academic journal of philosophy focusing on analytic philosophy, founded in 1994. The term "organon" stems from its use in philosophy to indicate a philosophical tool (for instance, Aristotle's main six works on philosophy is often referred to collectively as the Organon). The F is based on the Slovak term "filozofie", which simply translates to "philosophy". The journal was originally going to be simply titled "Organon", but shortly before publication a magazine with that title was discovered, so the "F" was added to disambiguate the publications.[1]
One of the motivating factors behind the journal was that there was only one Slovakian philosophy journal at the time, Filozofia. The founders of Organon F thought that this journal was monopolizing the philosophical conversation with limited viewpoints at the time, and thus established the need for a new journal.[1]
The journal is fully funded by its publishers, and therefore assesses no article processing charges or other fees on its authors while making the content freely available to scholars and the public at large through an Open Access publishing model.[2]
