NGC 3258 is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Antlia.[4] It is a member of the Antlia Cluster, which lies about 40.7 megaparsecs (132.7 million light-years) away.[5] It was discovered on May 2, 1834 by John Herschel.[6]
In 2010, a type Ia supernova was detected within NGC 3258; it was subsequently designated SN 2010hx.[7]
