Murder in the Cassava Patch (1968) is a novella by Liberian Bai T. Moore. It is required reading for every Liberian high school student, and is widely regarded as a Liberian literary classic[1] in what is a developing literary tradition.[2] It is based on a historic murder.[3]

It was later adapted to a feature film with the same name, directed by Yor-El Francis.[4]

  1. ^ J. Kpanneh Doe in The Perspective:"The writing of novels is rather new to the Liberian literary genre. Except for "Murder in the Cassava Patch," a Liberian literary classic, there aren't many others that can be grouped or classified as Liberian literature, or for that matter, constituting a literary tradition."
