Eras of composition are roughly categorized as follows:

  • Renaissance: 1440–1600
  • Baroque: 1600–1750
  • Classical: 1750–1810
  • Romantic: 1810–1870
  • Late Romantic: 1870–1910
  • 20th Century: 1910–1990
