Anambra State, Nigeria, was formed on 3 February 1976[1] when East-Central State was divided into Anambra and Imo (Owerri) states.

Appointed when the previous governor, Peter Obi, was impeached by the state legislature for alleged gross misconduct. She transferred her powers back to Peter Obi three months later when an appeal court nullified the impeachment.

Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba (Andy Uba) was elected and sworn in as the governor of Anambra State on 27 May 2007. He was removed by a supreme court decision on 14 June 2007. He governed the State for 14 days.

Chief Willie Maduabuchukwu Obiano was sworn in on 17 March 2014 as the new governor after the expiration of the Peter Obi second term, haven won 16 November 2013 election. He was reelected for second term on 18 November 2017.
