For his work in television he earned the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the HBO miniseries Elizabeth I (2005) as well as three Golden Globe Awards for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film for Elizabeth (2005), Longford (2006), and John Adams (2008).
