La Libertad Avanza (English: Freedom Advances) is an Argentine political coalition, which originated in Buenos Aires.[3][4][5] It has been described as far right, with conservative and ultraconservative stances on social and cultural issues,[6][7][8] and as right-wing libertarian, or ultra-liberal, on economic issues.[9] Its first electoral participation was at the 2021 Argentine legislative election,[10][11] obtaining the third place with 17% of the votes in the capital.[12][13][14]

The coalition is led by the economist Javier Milei,[15][16][17] who was elected the President of Argentina as the coalition's candidate in the 2023 Argentine general election.[18] After sealing an agreement with the politician Juan José Gómez Centurión, the candidates Victoria Villarruel and María Fernanda Araujo, among other conservative leaders, joined the alliance.[19][20] Milei presented himself separately from the Buenos Aires candidate José Luis Espert, with whom he had previously been linked in the Avanza Libertad,[21] and said there was no relations with the homonymous Córdoba front.[22][23][24]

Ideologically, La Libertad Avanza has taken paleolibertarian,[25] minarchist,[26][27] anarcho-capitalist,[28][29] Argentine nationalist,[30] and anti-communist positions.[31] It has been described as anti-establishment,[32][33][34] anti-politics,[35][36][37] and opposed to Kirchnerism.[38][39] Some of its members, such as Villarruel, have been accused of denial of state terrorism in Argentina during the National Reorganization Process period, which was Argentina's last military dictatorship in the 1970s and 1980s.[40][41] Due to its radical political stances, such as those of its leader Milei, who has been described as a controversial, eccentric,[42][43] and ultraconservative economist,[44] the coalition has been labelled as far right,[45][46][47] and compared to Spain's far-right Vox party.[48][49]

Milei and Villarruel were the coalition's successful presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2023 general election.[50][51] The coalition calls itself "a government alliance, which brings together, convenes, and addresses men and women of all social conditions, made up of different political parties, and created to promote liberal policies that contribute to the economic, political, cultural, and social takeoff that we Argentines need to return to being the thriving country that we were at the beginning of the year 1900."[52]
