Johan Carl Thuerecht von Castenschiold information

Johan Carl Thuerecht von Castenschiold (14 June 1787 – 30 January 1844) was a Danish civil servant and nobleman who served as Governor of Iceland (1813–1819).[1][2]

Castenschiold was born in Skælskør to Joachim Melchior Holten Castenschiold and Elisabeth Gysbertsdatter Behagen.[3] The Castenschiold family is descended from his great-grandfather, Johan Lorentz Carstensen, who was a plantation owner on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas.[4][5] He studied law at the University of Copenhagen, graduating in 1806.[6]
