Jean Marie Okwo-Bele (born 23 February 1957 in the small town of Beno, in Bagata Territory, Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo)) is a Congolese physician, public health expert and former Director of the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals[1] of the World Health Organization (WHO) (2004-2017, Retired).
Okwo-Bele currently serves as Director on the Board of Trustees of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI)[2] and is a member of the Leadership Coalition Group of the World Federation of Public Health Associations. In the recent years, he served on WHO emergency panels such as the WHO Review Committee on the Functioning of the International Health Regulations (2005) during the COVID-19 response and the WHO Emergency Committee on Ebola Virus Disease Outbreaks.
