Jaerock Lee (Korean: 이재록; April 20, 1943 – December 31, 2023) was a South Korean Christian pastor and author, who founded the Manmin Central Church in Seoul.[1] In 2018, he was convicted of multiple causes of sexual assault and rape against several members of his church, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.[2][3]
Lee founded the Manmin Central Church in 1982, and it grew into a megachurch[3] with a claimed membership of 120,000 in 9,000 member churches.[4] In 2010, Manmin Central church claimed to have the largest number of churches in Korea.[5] Lee's ministry was controversial, and he has been called a cult leader.[6][7]
Lee died on December 31, 2023, at the age of 80.[8] His books have been translated into several languages.[5]
