The Hindu Sena (IAST: Hindu Sēnā; lit.'Hindu Army'), is an Indian right-wing Hindu nationalist organization, founded on 10 August 2011 by Vishnu Gupta, who is also its current leader.[1][2]
The Sena organized a birthday party for Donald Trump, then a candidate for US President, on 14 June 2016. The Sena had previously prayed for his victory in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.[1][2] In January 2016, four activists of the Hindu Sena vandalized the regional office of Pakistan International Airlines in New Delhi, demanding an end to diplomatic talks between India and Pakistan. One of the four men was arrested; the rest fled.[3]
Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta was arrested on 25 December 2015, two days after he called the police and claimed that the restaurant of the hotel "Kerala House" was serving beef. Later, police stated that they were considering action against Gupta under Section 182 of the Indian Penal Code (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person).[4]
On 22 January 2019, Hindu Sena paid tribute to Queen Victoria, who was the Empress of India from 1 May 1876 – 22 January 1901 on her 118th death anniversary. The Sena declared the British Raj as India's 'first true independence' and said that Empress Victoria and the British Empire helped India attain freedom from Islamic invaders and terrorists. During the event, Sena chief Vishnu Gupta praised the British for giving the India the Indian Penal Code and equal women's rights. Gupta said that the British colonial rule on India is 'not slavery'. He also condemned the British for the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and other atrocities. Gupta also said that after partition the Indian National Congress and Communists are teaching 'wrong history' to Indians because the British knew if 'true history' would be taught no one would vote for Congress.[5]
