Hajong marriage information


Traditional Hajong marriage (Hajong Bhasa:Bya', pronounced as: [Bjɯ]) is a ceremonial ritual that involves a marriage established by pre-arrangement between families. Within Hajong culture, romantic love and widow re-marriage was allowed, and monogamy was the norm for the Hajong people.

The bride and the groom being escorted by the Airos. In traditional weddings, both bride and the groom are draped in large white cloths known as 'ghutang kapur'. White is associated with heaven and purity in Hajong culture.
