The Ecowas Brown Card Insurance Scheme is a motor insurance mechanism designed by ECOWAS to guarantee traffic accident victims a fair and accessible compensation for accidents caused by non-resident motorists traveling through the region.[1] It was created in the wake of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement to ensure that vehicles in transit that engage under the premise of free trade and movement are duly insured as they move within the West African sub-region.[2]
