Dragon Ball Heroes (Japanese: ドラゴンボール ヒーローズ, Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Hirozu) was a Japanese trading card arcade game based on the Dragon Ball franchise. It debuted on November 11, 2010 in Japan. In 2016, an update launched that improved the user experience in the form of enhanced graphics and easier accessibility of characters. This update was named Super Dragon Ball Heroes (スーパー ドラゴンボールヒーローズ).[1] Several other games based on the series have been released for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. Numerous manga adaptations have been published by Shueisha and a promotional anime adaptation by Toei Animation began being shown at public events in July 2018 before being uploaded online.
After 13 years of being active in Japan, the popular arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes ceased operations on May 9th 2024. The arcade game was said to be replaced by a new trading card arcade game called Dragon Ball Super Divers, a new arcade system that's three times larger in comparison to the currently available heroes arcade system and consists of 3 screens with updated graphics instead of one larger one as the goal is to make an immersive experience.[2]
According to the game's Producer, Akai, the idea was to transfer the player into the Dragon ball world and hence why the system got a drastic redesign. In an interview with Victory Uchida he stated that the team was working on adding separate mode for Super Dragon Ball Heroes into their new systems to allow fans to enjoy both games in their respective ways while migrating into the new system. This mode allowed fans to use their Heroes cards and play with the previous game's avatars for the time being.
He also announced that Super Dragon Ball Heroes will now no longer receive mission updates.[3]
