Djarot Saiful Hidayat (born 6 July 1962) is an Indonesian politician who is currently a member of the People's Representative Council. He was the governor of Jakarta, in office between 15 June and 15 October 2017 after being acting governor since 9 May. He replaced his predecessor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (commonly known as Ahok) when the latter was found guilty of blasphemy against Islam.[2] He was appointed by Basuki as Deputy Governor in 2014 to fill the gap left by the election of Joko Widodo as president.[3]
Member of PDI-P, his political career began as a member of East Java's Regional Parliament between 1999 and 2000, before he was elected as Mayor of Blitar where he served a 10-year tenure. He was later elected into the People's Representative Council before his move into the capital's governance.[4]
