Delores Gauntlett information

Delores Gauntlett (née McAnuff) is a Jamaican poet whose work has appeared in regional and international publications.[1]

Freeing her Hands to Clap was short-listed for the 2000 National Book Development Council/Una Marson Biannual Award. Gauntlett's second book of poetry, The Watertank Revisited, was published in 2005.[2]

Born in St. Ann, Jamaica, Gauntlett's love for poetry started about age eight, reciting poems at government-sponsored art festivals, at community concerts, and for fun at school recess, Dinthill Technica High. Years later, in 2000, she decided to take a deeper look at poetry and poetry writing and enrolled in Wayne Brown's Poetry Workshops. Her poems appeared across a range of anthologies, including: The Poetry Society Poetry News; a selection translated to Spanish in Poetas del Caribe anglófono. She received the 1999 David Hough prize, and the 2006 Daily News prize—The Caribbean Writer. Winner of Jamaica Observer Literary Competitions, and the 2007 U.K. Poetry Society Poetry News-Members' Poem Competition. Short-listed for: National Book Development Competition; the 2009 Small Axe competitions. Runner-up, the Hamish Canham Prize. Nominated and inducted into the recently established Jamaica Poetry Archive of the National Library of Jamaica. Her work was annotated by Yvonna Rousseva in San Jose State University project, "Bibliography of a Caribbean Poet". Her poem was selected by the Poetry 2012 Written World Project, BBC collaboration with The Scottish Poetry Library, showcasing poems from each participating nation in the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
