Catherine Phipps (c. 1690 – 11 March 1738) was a business woman in the Gold Coast. She was a prominent figure in the English Royal African Company (RAC) and the wife of James Phipps, who served as the governor of Cape Coast Castle and Captain-General of the RAC in West Africa during the 18th century.[1] Catherine Phipps was born in Moree on the Gold Coast, now known as Ghana, to a Dutch soldier and an African woman. Her life was marked by her involvement in the slave trade and her familial connections to notable individuals in English society.[2][3]
