Indian actress Amruta Khanvilkar primarily appears in Marathi and Hindi films. She began her career in 2004 as a contestant on the reality show Zee Cine Star ki Khoj and made her acting debut that same year in the Hindi short film Saanjh, presented by the Film and Television Institute of India.[1] Khanvilkar made her film debut by playing the dual role in the Marathi-language film Golmaal (2006).[2] The following year, she made her Bollywood debut with the drama Mumbai Salsa (2007), which proved to be average at the box office, but her next release comedy Saade Maade Teen, opposite Bharat Jadhav, was a huge commercial success.[3] In 2008, she starred in the super hit supernatural horror film Phoonk and later reprised her role in its sequel, Phoonk 2, both opposite Kichcha Sudeep.[4] Her sole film release in 2009 was the big budget Marathi film Gaiir.[5]
Khanvilkar received widespread attention for the song "Wajale Ki Bara" from the film Natarang (2010), due to the popularity of the song she performed at more than ten thousand events.[6][7] In 2011, she featured as a teacher in the romantic drama Shala, and portrayed a supportive girlfriend in Arjun.[8] Latter that year, her well-acclaimed role as a rural girl in the romantic comedy Zhakaas won her the MFK Award for Favourite Actress.[9] The following year, Khanvilkar played the character of Radio Jockey in Aditya Sarpotdar's Satrangi Re and a dance therapist in the acclaimed Aayna Ka Bayna.[10] Following a fearless girl in Baji, a depressed girl in Welcome Zindagi, and a Muslim artist in Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, all of which were commercial successes. The latter most received her nominations at the Maharashtra State Film Awards and the Filmfare Awards Marathi.[11] This was followed by two poorly received films One Way Ticket (2016) and Bus Stop (2017).[12] Khanvilkar subsequently returned to Hindi films after eight years with Meghna Gulzar's thriller Raazi and Milap Zaveri's action thriller Satyameva Jayate (both 2018).[13] Also in 2018, her portrayal as Lady Serial Killer Lovina Birdie in the thriller web series Damaged was highly praised by critics and audiences.[14]
In 2019, she had two film releases, Choricha Mamla and Malang.[15] The same year, she made her television debut in a lead role on Star Pravah's Jeevlaga, alongside Swapnil Joshi and Siddharth Chandekar.[16] Her only screen appearance in 2020 was in Well Done Baby, released directly on Amazon Prime Video.[17] She had three notable releases in 2022, a downtrodden girl in Sachin Kundalkar's love drama Pondicherry, a strong-headed homemaker of Maratha army general in Abhijit Deshpandes's pan-India historical film Har Har Mahadev, and Chandramukhi, in which she starred as the titular Tamasha performer; all three marked critical and commercial success.[18] She also produced and starred in the music videos Akkal Yeu De (2022) and Ganaraj Gajanan (2023) under her label Amrit Kala Studios.[19]
