Abortion in Norway information

Abortion in Norway is available on demand within the first twelve weeks of gestation, measured as 11 weeks and 6 days from the first day of the last menstrual period.[1] After this 12-week time limit, a request must be submitted to a special medical assessment board that will determine whether an abortion will be granted.[1]

According to the Norwegian Directorate of Health, requirements for being granted an abortion become stricter the longer a woman has been pregnant. After the 18th week of gestation, the pregnancy cannot be terminated except on grounds of grave risk. After the 22nd week of gestation, abortion is prohibited by Norwegian law (except in cases where the fetus is not viable).[1]

Abortion is provided for free to those who are living in Norway.[2]
