The 1992 Arizona State Sun Devils football team was an American football team that represented Arizona State University in the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) during the 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their first season under head coach Bruce Snyder, the Sun Devils compiled a 6–5 record (4–4 against Pac-10 opponents), finished in a tie for sixth place in the Pac-10, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 235 to 185.[1][2]

The team's statistical leaders included Grady Benton with 1,707 passing yards, Jerone Davison with 734 rushing yards, and Eric Guliford with 506 receiving yards.[3]

Finished regular season with commendable National Ranking Defensive Statistics (all as recorded by [1]) amongst the 107 Division 1-A teams at the time. The 1992 Sun Devils Defense ranked #14 of 107 in Rushing Defense at allowing just 120.3 ypg, ranked #15 of 107 in Pass Efficiency Defense holding opponents to a 51% completion%/game and to only 5.45 yds/att, and ranked #7 of 107 in Total Defense allowing just 4.0 yd/play and holding opponents to under 269 yds/game (only 74.6 yds/game more allowed than #1 Alabama).[4]

As recorded by [5] in regard to Strength of Schedule (SoS)[6] the 1992 Arizona State Sun Devils football team SoS rank came in at #7 of 107, making all more impressive their #7 overall rank in Total Defense cited above.

On October 24, 1992, in a conference match up, the Arizona State Sun Devils played the UCLA Bruins at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA. The Sun Devils won in historic fashion by shutting out the Bruins 20-0, which broke the Bruins NCAA 245-game straight games scoring streak.[7] As a result, the Sun Devils entire defense was named the PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Week.[8]

To cap off their 1992 season, the Arizona State Sun Devils traveled to Tucson, AZ to compete against the #16 nationally ranked Arizona Wildcats in the annual rivalry game between the 2 schools. In dramatic fashion, the Sun Devils upset the Wildcats 7-6 [9] with a tremendous, late game 51-yard rush TD by their senior running back Kevin Galbreath,[10] coupled with a valiant Sun Devil defensive effort all game long and by recording 2 defensive sacks (by senior defensive linemen Israel Stanley and Gavin Hill, watch the entire actual defensive game footage 1st qt thru 4th qt via[11] on the Wildcat's scoreless final offensive possession of the game. Israel Stanley named PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Week as result of his overall efforts in the game.[12]
