Led by second-year head coach Ken Hatfield, the Tigers compiled an overall record of 9–2–1 with a mark of 6–0–1 in conference play, winning the ACC title. Clemson was invited to the Florida Citrus Bowl, where the Tigers lost to California. The team played home games at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina.
