The 1971 Fiesta Bowl was the inaugural edition of the college football bowl game, played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, on Monday, December 27. Part of the 1971–72 bowl game season, it featured the eighth-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and the independent Florida State Seminoles. Arizona State broke a tie late in the fourth quarter to win, 45–38.[2][3]
