Tatum Gressette served as head coach for the eighth season. The Bulldogs played as members of the Southern Conference and played home games at Johnson Hagood Stadium.[1][2][3]

The Citadel was ranked at No. 175 (out of 609 teams) in the final Litkenhous Ratings for 1939.[4]
